My name is Laury White and I am a happy wife and mom of three adult children and two grandbaby girls! We all live in Fallbrook, California, and attend North Coast Church. We homeschooled our three children up until high school and our youngest attended Calvary Preparatory Academy for his high school years. Boy, do we wish all three of the kids had had that opportunity! Prior to raising my family, I attended California State University – Long Beach where I earned my secondary teaching credential in 1992. Ever since then I have been teaching and, have to say, it is still what I want to do when I grow up. Eighteen of those years of teaching experience were in public school, and the rest were in private online education, co-op schooling, homeschooling, and medical home instruction. Working with youth is truly my passion, both in the classroom and through a discipleship role, and I have never tired of the ministry or the work. I am always looking for new activities to get students involved both on campus and off. I can be found all around our virtual online campus starting something up for the students. I am the advisor for the Student Leadership Team, the Yearbook Class, and the Student Newsletter Team. You can also find me in the Daily Discussion Forum posting the devotions for the day. I actively participate in curriculum revisions, school meetings, projects, and fundraisers. Calvary Preparatory Academy has been the perfect place for me to bring all my experience and passions to the table. I am all in!
A little bit about me
Birthday: August 26th
My best advice for students is:
Follow God's instructions on your thought life. How you think, is how you will respond. God is so specific on how to think and when we follow that, it brings peace beyond comprehension along with joy. Phil. 4:6-10 is a good place to start.
The single most important person that made a positive impact on my life when I was a teenager was:
Jesus. I cannot single out one person but as I reflect on this one, many individuals, used by Jesus, surface in my memories. Each one played a significant role in impacting my life.
Teaching has taught me about myself, and the way people learn by:
Being teachable requires honesty, vulnerability, and willingness to learn. In order to get there, we must trust our learning environment and the people who are there to support us. I have learned that to be a good teacher, I must do the same.
I wanted to become a teacher because:
I felt called to it at age 12 and knew that God had a plan for me to support others with learning and growing.
I choose to teach at a Christian school because:
I love Jesus and teaching at a Christian school allows me to speak about Him freely.
My most embarrassing moment in high school was:
Well, I got lice in the 9th grade and a friend sitting behind me in class pointed out that she saws bugs crawling out of my hair! The school nurse sat me in the middle of the waiting room of students, picking through my head, and declared, "Yep, you got lice!" I was mortified and never wanted to return to school.
My life in high school was like:
I had hormone imbalances and struggled with emotional health as a result. I spent the majority of my time hiding in my room after school. I missed out on most of the typical high school experience due to this struggle. Praise the Lord, that high school does not determine the rest of your life! I went on to embrace life with all its fullness and sam o grateful for the rough start that strengthened my relationship with God and made me who I am today.
