Summer Institute PROGRAM

Welcome from the President

As this year’s CALSA President, I’m very excited for the best Summer Institute yet. Bienvenidos and welcome to beautiful San Diego and the 2019 CALSA Summer Institute, “Charting the Path to Excellence through Equity: LEAD LEARN LEGACY”. Our team has listened to feedback from our members to refine the Summer Institute sessions and experience to make it even more meaningful to connect with the new and returning CALSA familia from across the state.
CALSA is focused on the continued development of Latino educational leaders. Moreover, we are committed to all leaders who advocate for Latino students and all students of color. Latino students make up fifty-four percent of all students in our schools in California. It is imperative to be the advocates and exemplary administrators for our students; our familia.
The 2019 CALSA SI program offers a great variety of sessions, speakers and events designed for you to engage with leaders who are committed to supporting the achievement of Latino students. This year, we’re extremely honored to host an amazing list of speakers. Our keynote address will be given by Richard A. Carranza, Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, the largest school system in the nation. Throughout the conference, we’ll also be joined by Alexis Menocal Harrigan, Director of State Government Affairs,, Pam Gildersleeve-Hernandez, CUE Executive Director, and Jan Gustafson-Corea, CABE Executive Director. Please take full advantage of our 19th Annual Summer Institute and all the events. The values of familia, togetherness and advocacy can be experienced throughout the organization and in the Institute.
On behalf of the Board, welcome y bienvenidos! Thank you for sharing your time with us with the CALSA familia. Feel free to reach out to any one of us.
