Received many all-county and all-conference awards in football and baseball during prep career 

Member of the Northwestern conference and 3A Western Regional championship football team (1977)

Continued football and baseball playing career at Lenoir Rhyne College (1978-1982) on athletic scholarship

Coached at Ashe Central and West Lincoln before returning home to lead South Caldwell Football from 1990-2000.
