It's time to put some of your communication skills to the test. You are going to create a presentation where you use the various communication skills you've been learning to present an idea to the sharks on the hit show Shark Tank.
But, don't worry, you don't actually have to go on set and present to the billionaires. In fact, you don't even have to create the item you want to pitch to them...but you can.
You can select any product on the market that you really like using OR you can come up with a completely wild product of your own (partner locator, shoes that can be changed from sneakers to stilettos or whatever with the press of a button, or how about magical closet where all of the clothes are the most stylish and fit you perfectly without ever having to go shopping, pay for them or wash them...you get the idea....be as creative as you'd like).
Using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, Canva or whatever platform you're most comfortable using, create a slideshow with at least FOUR slides:
Slide 1:
Cover Slide with your name and picture of yourself (Bitmojis, drawings, artistic renderings are all acceptable)
Slide 2:
Image of your product.
If you want to put 3-4 bullet points on the slide, you may, but you should not have much, if any text.
You will make a recording and for slide 2, you are introducing the product to the sharks.
Tell them what the product is and how it is used and why your product should actually go into production.
You want to be as persuasive as possible at this stage so think about how you're going to modulate your voice- a deadpan voice is not going to convince anyone to give you money to make a product.
Slide 3:
Image of money.
Again, if you want 3-4 bullet points on the slide to help you remember what you're going to say that's fine, but no text is required.
Instead, on this slide you're going to talk about finances:
How much does it cost to make your product?
How much is your product going to cost people to buy it?
How much money do you think a shark can make off of their investing in your product?
Yes, you can fake this information. This is all about how you're using your voice to persuade your audience.
Slide 4:
Image to use for thank-you.
For this slide, you are thanking your audience for listening to your presentation and getting in a final plug for someone to invest in the product.
Using whatever platform you're most comfortable with, you will make the recording as indicated above. PowerPoint and Google Slides have a built-in option for adding in audio recordings. You can also use your phone to make the recording and submit that along with your slides.
Here are some options you can use that are free:
*I use this site, myself, and it's very easy. If you select this and need some help, just let me know.
You're actual presentation should be FIVE minutes or LESS. The emphasis for this project is to use what you've been learning about how we communicate ideas to each other through our voice and on making sure you're communicating effectively.
This is the rubric which will be used to grade your presentation.
You will turn your work in through Edgenuity. You can upload the slides and recording, or you can post a sharelink to the assignment. If your file is very large, you can email the work to your teacher directly (jnehr@cal-pacs.org), or you can upload the presentation to YouTube. If you need further help, please, reach out to Mrs. Nehr.
