You will now be creating a playbill for a theater version of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. Every level of theater performance—from a play at a local elementary school to Broadway productions—comes with a playbill. This pamphlet informs the audience about crucial elements of the play: its title and show dates, the names of the cast members and which character each plays, and a brief synopsis of the scenes or musical numbers in each act.
Here are a couple of samples for you to look at:
Keep in mind that these are geared for a professional and a high school production and are considerably longer than what you will be putting together.
Cover page:
Title of the play: The Importance of Being Earnest (you are not using any other play)
Relevant Image (you might want to insert the image used for your poster to tie the two documents together)
Name of theatre
Date(s) of the performance
Page 2:
Name of the director (you may be the director, or you may select someone else)
A ONE paragraph synopsis (fancy word for summary) of the primary events of the play
A list of the cast of characters and the name of the actor/actress playing the role. You must include these characters:
John (Jack/Ernest) Worthing
Algernon Moncrieff
Gwendolyen Fairfax
Lady Bracknell
Select ONE more character from the novel (entirely your choice). Here is a suggest list from which to choose, but you may select someone more minor to the novel if you'd like:
Cecily Cardew
Miss Prism
Rev. Canon Chasuble
Lane- Algernon's manservant
Merriman- butler at Jack's country estate
There should be at least one relevant image or icons used to "decorate" the page and make it attractive
Page 3: This is where you will provide a picture of the actresses/actors you have selected for the FIVE roles and will explain why that person was selected for the role. There should be at least 2-3 sentences explaining your selections for EACH person. You may NOT use an actor/actress who has played any of the roles for The Importance of Being Earnest.
