WELCOME TO CADILLAC CHOIRS!
I'm extremely excited that your student has chosen to participate in Cadillac's vocal music program!
Our focus is on creating musicians who are thirsty to succeed in a caring environment where strengths are fine tuned and areas of growth are identified and enhanced.
Our Choirs become like family; a space where students feel comfortable to grow, experiment, create & develop their skills together.
It's bigger than just singing! It's teamwork, leadership, humility, relationships, success, healthy pride and so much fun!
EXPLORING THE WHOLE WORLD OF VOCAL MUSIC
CAPS choir students gain knowledge and experience in the following areas of musicianship:
Sight Reading
note naming, solfege, rhythm reading
Vocal Technic
tone, vowel production, active listening, breathing & support
Music History
periods of music, variety of composers (periods & styles), cultural exploration
Keyboard Skill
Higher level choirs will explore the piano keyboard & gain understanding to help in individual practicing and sectional time.
Character Development
leadership, vocal independence, confidence, creativity, team work

DIRECTOR INFORMATION
Amy Swanson has been the Director of Choirs at Cadillac Area Public Schools since 2020.
Mrs. Swanson grew up right around the corner in Lucas! She began studying the piano at the age of 8. She joined her school's band program in 5th grade, learning to play the trumpet. Her vocal solo debut was as early as she can remember at church. Later in high school Mrs. Swanson focused on vocal music! Mrs. Swanson studied education with a vocal emphasis at Aquinas College.
After graduating from Aquinas with a Bachelor of Music Education, Mrs. Swanson has taught K-7 general music & choir at St. Ann's school, 5th-12th band & choir at Northern Michigan Christian Schools and is in her 7th year at CAPS! Before getting busy with her own family, she was a private piano and voice teacher in the Cadillac area.
Mrs. Swanson presently directs the Mackinaw Trail Middle School 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade choirs, as well as the Cadillac High School Chorale and Chamber Choir.
Mrs. Swanson is active in her church on the worship team and performs when she has time! Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family: her husband, three kiddos and fur baby!
