AUDITION HUB!

Directed by Ami Peltier and Julie VanHaitsma

Audition Dates:

Sunday, April 13 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and Monday, April 14 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Location of Auditions:

The Footliters’ Clubhouse, 3841 Walker Ave, Cadillac, MI (behind Habitat for Humanity off Boon Rd.).

Please fill out Google form at right for auditions before the audition dates.  Forms will also be available at the auditions, but it is very helpful to fill out the form online ahead of time.

Please read all audition information before attending auditions!

Auditioners should be prepared to sing approximately 16-32 measures of a song of their choice (acapella) for the production team.  This song should be one that highlights your vocal range that you are familiar with singing. You should also prepare to sing a song from the show for auditions (SEE BELOW). It helps the directors to know you are familiar with the show and able to sing the songs for the part you are interested in being cast in. If you are auditioning for a certain role it is best if you sing the song selection for that character for your audition. You are able to audition for multiple roles but please only sing one song choice.

Auditioners will be asked to read from one or more of the Character Sides (SEE BELOW) at auditions.

Must be 18+ years or older to audition.

Director note:

You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown is a musical tribute to the characters of Charles Schultz’s Peanuts comic strip. The brilliance of the comic was the way large life matters were distilled through the lens of children (and dogs!). In the musical, Charlie Brown and friends battle with schoolwork, kites, baseball games, and misunderstandings until finally realizing what makes them truly happy. While the situations and relationships may be heightened by youth and for comedy, the emotions and the passions of the characters are all very real. We are looking for enthusiastic actors that bring these characters to life.

A note about casting:

Most characters in the show are on the gender binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following character descriptions. However limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite performers of any gender identity or sexual orientation to audition for the roles they most identify with. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide. Please reach out to Ami Peltier (amipeltier@gmail.com) or Julie VanHaitsma (jjvanhaitsma@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Characters

Below are the character descriptions and related songs for each of the roles in this cast. While this is typically presented as a small cast musical with six roles and no ensemble, the directors may decide to add additional cast members to a small ensemble.

CHARLIE BROWN

Vocal range: B-flat2 to F4 (or defined as Baritone). He is gentle, loving, insecure. A lovable loser with endless determination and hope, but who often fails due to his insecurities, interference from others, and a permanent case of bad luck. Song for auditions: “The Kite.‍”

SNOOPY

Vocal range: C3-A4 (or defined as Tenor). He is Charlie Brown’s pet beagle. Snoopy is owned and cared for by Charlie Brown, although at times it is not clear who is in charge. He is loyal, dramatic, genuinely happy, and blessed with a rich fantasy life. He is more human-like than dog. Song for auditions: “Suppertime.”

LUCY VAN PELT

Vocal range: G3 to F#5 (or defined as Mezzo-Soprano). She is bossy, selfish, and a know-it-all. She is not deterred by the fact that her information is often inaccurate. She bullies and belittles others, especially Charlie Brown and Linus. She does have a soft side, which is seen through her love for Schroeder. Song for auditions: “Schroeder.”

LINUS VAN PELT

Vocal range: B-flat2 to E4 (or defined as Baritone). He is Lucy’s little brother. Linus always means well and tries to smooth over any storms that arise in the group. He is kind-hearted, caring, and incredibly smart. In contrast to his intellectual maturity is his reliance on his security blanket. Song for auditions: “My Blanket and Me.”

SALLY BROWN

Vocal range: B3 to A-flat5 (or defined as Soprano). Charlie Brown’s younger sister. She is friendly and sweet but can also be lazy and obsessive. Sally has a “take it easy” approach to life, preferring to slide by while doing as little work as possible. She is hopelessly in love with Linus. Song for auditions: “My New Philosophy.”

SCHROEDER

Vocal range: B-flat2 to A-flat4 (or defined as Tenor). He has a precocious skill at playing the piano and an incredible love of classical music and Ludwig van Beethoven. Lucy is infatuated with Schroeder, but he refuses her because Beethoven was a lifelong bachelor, and he feels he must emulate every aspect of his idol’s life. He is a close friend of Charlie Brown and is often the first one to come to his defense. (Actor does not need to play the piano.) Song for auditions: “Beethoven Day.

character sides

Take a few moments to read over these audition sides (portions of the script) ahead of time to familiarize yourself with the lines (not necessarily to memorize, but to at least know what's coming!). It really helps!
