2. Create a Space for Academic Time Away from Other Distractions

  1. Attempt to keep an area in your house or your child’s room designated for academic time. Having this designated area will allow your child to have a focused area known for school work. Keeping this area free of other distracting activities such as TV or other electronics, toys, games and people is also important. The fewer distractions in the area, the better your child will be able to focus.

  2. If you would like to continue to foster the Montessori framework of flexible seating/work area, try using a specific rug or lap board for all academic work. Similar to the classroom, in which designated rugs are used, using specific work spaces will signal when and where academic time will be spent.
