Dear English Language Learner Parents and Students,

Designated ELD (D-ELD) refers to instruction explicitly designed for English language learners to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. It is a legal requirement that EL students have access to the same grade level standards and rigorous content as their English-only peers. Instruction in English should be partnered with instructional strategies and scaffolding to increase and maximize content mastery. It is expected that students will reach mastery within 5 years of entering the ELD program.

MVA provides ELD students with live virtual classes and a parent-led option to support students with their D-ELD lessons each week. Below is the curriculum provided by MVA and a breakdown for students to follow to meet their weekly goal of completing 150 minutes of D-ELD instruction.

ELD Curriculum

IMPORTANT:  Work Sample Change

Instead of monthly ELD logs, students will submit an ELD work sample each learning period.

Lexia Online Learning Platform

All ELD students should have received their login information to their Lexia online learning platform. MVA, CPA, and PCA have chosen Lexia Core5 as the designated ELD instruction for TK-5 students and Lexia PowerUp for grades 6-12. I've included additional detailed information your student will need to meet the weekly 150 minutes of ELD instruction listed below.

We hope that streamlining the ELD support options this year gives students a more systematic and structured approach to meeting their needs. For more information, visit our multilingual resource site.
