Welcome to Second Grade
I am so excited to begin another year of teaching and being a part of your child's life. Second grade is a big year where we will see more writing, learning multiplication facts, and reading a variety of genres. Your child is going to learn more responsibilities about being a super student all while having fun learning. I look forward to an awesome year!
Spelling City Homework/Enrichment
Our class will be using Spelling City to help with spelling and vocabulary skills. Your child will go to the Spelling City Vocabulary website and search for my name and school. We will practice in class when our spelling homework starts in our reading class so they are familiar with using the website. Your child will complete activities associated with the week's assigned words, More practice means more learning. Spelling Vocabulary City makes learning weekly spelling words fun!
Here are some great tips to help your child prepare for the weekly test:
- Please have your child use Spelling City for test preparation. He/she can choose the activities, but guidance from you will be helpful! It has so many options and is self-directed.
- Give your child a paper test to see which words he/she really needs to work on at home. Writing misspelled words out 5 times each will give your child practice in spelling and handwriting.
- Some students benefit from spelling flashcards. Make them together on Monday and use them all week for a quick review!

Keep Those Milk Caps For Education Coming In!
WE HAVE MADE OUR SEVENTH 1,000+ MILK CAPS!!!! WooHoo!!! We continue to save Longmont Dairy's milk caps to earn money for our classroom/school! If you drink their wonderful milk, start saving those milk caps because they are worth 5 cents each! Check the flyer for more details. If you don't get their milk and your neighbors do, ask your child to collect them from your neighbors. It is such an easy way to bring in money to our school that would normally be tossed in the trash or recycling. My family will be donating all of our caps to our favorite classroom! We just finished our seventh round of filling our milk cap container with just a few families saving milk caps. PLEASE ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS to save them for you if they purchase Longmont Dairy Milk. EVERY CAP COUNTS! We cannot wait to see how much we raise for our eighth round of Milk Caps for Moola. Thank you families and Longmont Dairy!
Keep Them Coming: Box Tops and Labels for Education
We are collecting Box Tops and Labels for Education. Please check all of your boxes and cans before you throw them away. You will be surprised as to how many of our pantry items have them. I have my mother and sisters saving them for our class, too. Ask your family to save them and mail them to you. What a great way for your child to thank them with a handwritten note when they send your child their box tops and labels. Please help us in our efforts in collecting these items for our school to earn money for education!
