As it's the final newsletter of the year, I would like to thank different members of our brilliant community. 

Most importantly, the children, who have been fantastic this year, every single one of them are important to us and reading their reports showed how well they have all done. Whether it is learning to tie their laces, or doing well in their SATs, every achievement needs recognition for the individual child.

We are lucky to have a fantastic team of adults here at Byfleet Primary School who ensure that every child is cared for and looked after every day. Alongside our excellent SATs results, the school has achieved a higher than national average in the Reception GLD Assessment, higher than national average in the phonics screening, and a higher than average Multiplication Screening Check result. These results are down to the rigour of the individual teaching teams but are also supported by a wider team. Away from the classroom, the office team do a remarkable job, in particular this year, Mrs Scott who has truly gone above and beyond in ensuring everything ticks over in the background. Our pastoral care is something we are very proud of and Mrs Wyatt is instrumental in supporting our children with her relentless love and care, alongside supporting the adults in our school. Huge thank you to Mr Hagen who has worked tirelessly on a number of bigger projects this year including the allotment, alongside keeping the school functioning and ticking over. Mrs Cosentino has been incredible in her flexibility and constant drive to want the best for our children and is involved in every aspect of school life. Our LSAs have been superb and incredibly flexible supporting the children academically, emotionally and covering as and when they have been needed.  Our teachers are amazing, and I'd like to thank every single one for their support this year in ensuring the stability continued improvement of the school. I wish Miss Taylor and Mrs Kay all the very best as they move on to new chapters in their life and hope they will come back and stay in touch. Our amazing Friends of Byfleet Primary School, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the amazing events we have seen this year can run. In particular Mrs Powell and Mrs Wolfe who have put in a huge amount of unseen hours to raise money to improve the school for our children.

Finally, thank you to our community, for all of your support and understanding this year. 

I wish you and your families a restful and happy summer and look forward to welcoming you and your children back in September. If you are leaving us this year, I wish you and your children all the very best for your new chapter and hope that we have given them a good start for the next stage of their lives.

The last two weeks in Reception have been full of fun, laughter, and special memories as we have enjoyed our final days together. Our learning has focused on summer, where we explored the changing season, shared our favourite summer activities, and talked about all the exciting adventures the holidays may bring.

We have also spent time preparing for our transition to Year 1. The children have been discussing their thoughts and feelings about moving on, sharing what they are excited about and any little worries they may have. It has been wonderful to see how much they have grown in confidence and independence throughout the year, and they are more than ready for this next exciting step.

We were incredibly proud of the children during our class assembly all about the ocean. They truly shone, speaking and singing with confidence and enthusiasm. We also performed our poem in the whole-school poetry recital, and the children did an amazing job, performing beautifully in front of the entire school.

As we come to the end of Reception, I want to say what an absolute privilege it has been to teach this wonderful class. Watching each child grow, learn, and flourish has been so rewarding, and I couldn't be prouder of everything they have achieved. They have filled our classroom with kindness, curiosity, and so much joy, and I will miss them all very much. I hope every family has a fantastic, restful summer holiday, and I wish each and every child the very best as they begin their exciting journey into Year 1. I know they will all continue to shine.

What a wonderful way to end the year! Year 1 had the most amazing trip to London, where the children were able to see some of the famous landmarks we have been learning about in our curriculum. We started our day with a river boat cruise, which gave us a fantastic view of many of London's iconic sights. We then enjoyed a ride on the London Eye, which was definitely a highlight of the day. The children absolutely loved it, especially the incredible views from the top! We also enjoyed a lovely picnic together before the children drew their own beautiful pictures of the London Eye. It was such a special day, full of smiles, excitement and wonderful memories. I was so proud of the children's wonderful behaviour throughout the trip they showed kindness, enthusiasm and excellent manners all day.

As we come to the end of Year 1, I just want to say what a fantastic year it has been. It has been such a privilege to teach this lovely class and watch them grow in confidence, kindness and independence. They have all worked so hard, achieved so much and should be incredibly proud of themselves, I know I certainly am! I will miss them all so much, but I know they are more than ready for Year 2 and all the exciting opportunities it will bring. I wish every child the very best as they begin Year 2, and I hope you all have a happy, relaxing and well-deserved summer holiday. 

Year 2 have spent the past couple of weeks immersing themselves in poetry.  We have been reading them, writing them and learning them by heart. We have written acrostic poems, senses poems and yesterday a poem based on the poem Inside a Shell by John Foster.  The children all did a wonderful job, writing thoughtful and interesting verses.  It was very hard to choose 3 to put in this newsletter, but after much thought I chose wonderful poems by Nellie, Olivia and George S. 

This week, Year 5 enjoyed making their own garlic and olive bread as part of their Design & Technology learning. The children learned how bread is made by mixing, kneading and shaping the dough before adding garlic and olives and baking it to perfection.

Year 6 had an epic week on the Isle of Wight for their Residential. As always, PGL provided us with a range of exciting activities including keelboat sailing, trapeze, giant swing, vertical challenge and many more - it was brilliant to see the children tackle these with determination and enthusiasm. For some children, it was their first time trying activities like this but they didn't let that stop them and gave it a go. 

We really enjoyed celebrating all their little wins (including packing their bags at the end!) with them. Most notably, Year 6's encourgaement of each other was outstanding - they needed no reminding to support each other in trying different things and they all wanted the best for one another. 

Well done, Year 6!

Year 6 had a great time at Woking Superbowl for their Year 6 Leavers' Trip. This trip was funded by their cake sales so a massive thank you to Friends of Byfleet and parents/carers. 

This was a lovely way to round off a fantastic year - they've been absolute superstars! We wish them the best of luck for Secondary School.
