Avery D

By Brooklyn Davis

Born as a runner, Avery Deringer, a junior at Big Walnut, has earned a varsity letter both her freshman and sophomore year. She has gotten the opportunity to go to OCC´S and won two years in a row, and has also qualified for districts. ¨The Big walnut track team is great and supportive, going to meets and practices are always so much fun¨ Avery said.

Besides practices and lifting, Avery also spends time going to the gym which includes more running and lifting! When it comes to working out and lifting, food always has an impact on how you look and also how you play the sport. Avery says ¨I try to eat a little healthier and add more protein and carbs to my diet so I can get gains and become stronger ¨All of the girls on the track team push Avery to work harder and get more competitive as well as her parents and coaches, they want her the best she can be and has supported her for many years in meets.

One thing that is important in any sport is the coach, this is because the coach gives the best advice and supports the player throughout the season. Coach Evener who's been with the track team for the last 32 years said ¨Running is difficult. It is a lot of hard work, and it is easy to get down on yourself if you are tired, sore, or had a bad race. It happens to everyone. I try to make sure Avery, and other athletes, understand this, and know how important they are to the team.¨ Coach Evener also said ¨Avery is a fantastic sprinter. She works hard in practices and is a positive influence on the younger athletes. She is really good in the sprint relays (4x100 and 4x200), because she understands how to pass and receive handoffs.

Avery mentioned that her teammates describe her as very outgoing and talkative. She believes that her group makes practices more enjoyable and exciting with all the jokes and fun talks. Avery Kerr, another junior at Big Walnut on the girls track team said ¨Our favorite memory of me and Avery is running 400 days together and going to eat after meals and practices. She's very supportive to the girls on the team.¨
