Welcome to Ms. Courtney's Page
About Me: I have been teaching since 2008, and we are excited to be in CO after living in Seattle until 2018. I received my National Board Certification in 2017. My husband and I have two kiddos and we love to take them camping and hiking. Outside of school, I love to play soccer, take care of my beautiful house plants and garden (fiddle leaf fig, cucumbers, golden pothos, monstera, watermelon, pumpkins, zephyr squash, cucumbers etc.), drink coffee, and read. I read 100 books in 2020. My favorite books this year are: The Sentence, Demon Copperhead, Lessons in Chemistry, Five Wounds ,The Book of Longings, The Round House, Amari and the Nightbrothers, The Heart's Invisible Furies, Crying in H Mart, and The Guncle. My favorite authors are Barbara Kingsolver, Chimamanda Adichie, and Maggie O'Farrell. I love teaching living poets, but I have favorite poets from all time periods: Mary Oliver, Li-Young Lee, Jose Olivarez, Eve Ewing, Jericho Brown, Billy Collins, and Seamus Heaney. Did you know our country has a National Poet Laureate? Her name is Ada Limon, and she is the successor to Joy Harjo, the first Native American Poet elected to that office.
In addition to teaching Concurrent Enrollment am taking on a new role of Teacher Librarian this year. I'll be in the library for the full day- including tutor time- if you need to find me.
I'm very much looking forward to working with you this year.
