Forensics Investigation & Criminology

ARE YOU BAD ENOUGH TO BE GOOD?

ARE YOU READY TO LEARN ABOUT REAL LIFE?

DO YOU LIKE CRIME SCENE SHOWS?

EVER WONDER WHY PEOPLE COMMIT CRIMES?

If your answer is “Yes” to any of these to any of these questions, the Forensics Investigation & Criminology program at Boulder TEC is looking for you! This program is offered to juniors and seniors in the Boulder Valley School District who are interested in a variety of Forensics Investigation & Criminology careers.

The first semester covers the Criminal Justice System, including criminal law, constitutional law, juvenile law and other areas of law enforcement, the court system and the correctional system. Students will learn how all of these systems work together; law enforcement, court systems and corrections systems.

A highlight of the first semester is a tour of the Broomfield County Jail.

Our second semester covers Forensics Technology, including crime scene investigation and criminology (the study of why people commit crimes). This class involves learning about evidence through multiple hands-on crime scene investigations. If you love learning about blood spatter, fingerprinting, evidence collection, foot impressions and tool & tire mark impressions, through hands-on activities, this is the class for you!

Criminology delves into the biological, sociological and psychological reasons people commit crimes. Students will study such topics as psychopaths, sociopaths, serial killers, terrorism, and mass shootings, in addition to analyzing why people do what they do.

Highlights of second semester include a cadaver lab and a tour of the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
