2012

While this was a trendy thing before the 2000’s, it came back around in popularity in 2012, with celebrity Kanye West leading the trend!
Twilight was a new, and popular movie series that all the cool kids were watching. However, there was not as much hype as there was in 2012, when the saga released the last and final movie, Breaking Dawn Part 2. Which made over $300 million! However, the saga itself made over $1.35 billion dollars.
This horrific looking rainbow shoe, known as the 2012 Marc Jacobs (Wedge) Sneakers, were extremely popular in 2012. So much, that women were even wearing them with their skirts and dresses! Yikes!
In 2012, Netflix entered the content production industry, where it began making trendy ‘original’ series. So if you streamed Netflix in 2012, you were cool!
2013
Can I be the first to say…YUM?! In 2013, frozen yogurt was all the craze! It ranged from different flavors, containers, and sizes! Along with being a healthier route than just regular ice cream. We totally need to bring this trend back!
Hold onto your hats because the Disney princess movie: Frozen, came out NINE YEARS AGO!!! Am I the only one that finds that a little crazy?! This new Disney movie of two sisters swept through the markets, music world, everything. Simply legendary.
For those of you who do not know what sriracha is, it’s a hot sauce. It became so popular in 2013 that a judge actually ordered a month-long delay on sriracha shipment in order to get people to stop using overly obsessive amounts of it. It even became so popular that they came out with a sriracha documentary in 2013 too!
This song might have only trended in 2013, but it will forever trend in my heart. What does the Fox Say?! Was a glorious and legendary song written by Ylvis. It’s a video covering all the possible sounds a fox could say, because who really knows... what does the fox say?
2014
I have to admit, I definitely took part in this trend :)
These particular types of boots, known as Uggs, were very trendy in 2014! Especially the tan colored ones with cotton on the outside! I still have mine!
Happy by Pharrell Williams came out in late 2013, but it didn’t become popular until 2014, when the song hit #1 for the hot playlist. In fact, it lasted TEN weeks as the #1 song out of 100!
In 2014, MARVEL’s Guardians of the Galaxy ranked as #1 in the box office with nearly $333 million dollars! After that, it trended all throughout the year!
Ah yes, Temple Run, Imangi Studios outdid themselves with this gaming app. In 2014, the game had over 1 billion downloads! To put that into perspective, that’s more than the entire population of the United States!
That’s pretty gnarly.
2015
The ripped jeans were a fashion long before the 2000’s. However, it wasn’t very popular. But that changed in 2015. Everybody and their grandmas (okay, maybe not their grandmas) were wearing ripped jeans! And if you ask me, this trend is still going strong!

Can you guess what the most trendy names were in 2015? Making it on the top of the list as #1 for boys and girls was… Sophia and Jackson! So if your name is one of those, YOU were trendy in 2015! But not anymore! haha
Dying your hair Grey was a huge trend in 2015! Why did people want to age themselves? I don’t know! But hey, it was trendy, so I guess that makes it cool?!
2016
Yes, yes, this was a HUGE trend going on in 2016! The Bottle Flip Challenge! Can you toss a water bottle into the air and land it? Probably not, but that’s why it became the ultimate trendy challenge!
In 2016, this baggy-looking jacket was very trendy. It’s called the bomber jacket, or also known as the flight jacket, pilot jacket, or as I know it as: the gorgeous Tom Cruise jacket from Top Gun ;)
This horrifying dish of what looks like barf is actually a trendy Irish dish that is made up of mashed potatoes, cabbage, and/or kale. This was so popular it made it on the top 3 most popular dishes of 2016!
Harry Potter was obviously a huge hit in both the book world and movie world.
In 2016, J.K. Rowling released: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child part 1 & 2, which was the #1 young adult book of the year!
2017
Overly obnoxious round glasses were trendy? Apparently so! In fact, in 2017, people began buying round glasses that they didn’t even need! And others bought round glasses that didn’t even match their prescription!
While Mackenzie Schubert already covered this one in the Link Volume 3 Issue 1, it actually first became a trend in 2017! (and is still trending!) While it was first released in 2016, its popularity didn’t occur until late 2017 where it got over 200 million accounts!
This simple and annoying kids song was first released in June of 2016, but it became a trendy song in 2017 and literally went viral. The baby shark is now the most viewed youtube video of all time! Today, there is:

In 2017, this beef dish, known as the: Beef stroganoff recipe, was the #1 most ‘Googled’ recipe of the year! It’s been trending on the internet, but does that mean it's good? Well, there’s one way to find out!
2018
The faux fur coats were very trendy in 2018! In fact, a store director commented on how the insane amount of fur coats have been ‘popping’ in the stores!
The Amazon fire stick became trendy in 2018 when the streaming service upgraded it to 4K!
The new Amazon Fire Stick 4K addition has many features ranging from movies to tv shows! So if you have this addition, you’re trendy!
The Apple Watch has been popular for a while now, but it became super trendy in 2018 when the new Apple Watch Series 4 was released and suddenly everybody began wearing them!
In 2018, the ‘messy bun’ hairstyle was ranked as #1 as the most popular hairstyle of the year!
2019
What was the trendiest thing you could drink in 2019? Apparently, it was Oat Milk! Indeed, this was the drink of the year. People thought Oat Milk contained healthier nutrients than just regular milk. However, this drink doesn’t really deserve the title ‘milk’ because it’s only made up of pre-soaked oats mixed with water, and then blended into a thin liquid.
The most popular jewelry of the year was beach jewelry! That includes any necklace or bracelet that had seashells, anchors, dolphins, shark tooth, palm tree, etc.

After the incredible hit MARVEL movie: Avengers Infinity War, the fans eagerly anticipated the next and final movie: Endgame. When it was finally released in April of 2019, it became the most trendy movie of the year! In fact, it immediately broke the box office with $860 million in the USA alone. Worldwide, it made nearly $3 billion!
Checkered pants? Really? Unfortunately so. Checkered pants were super trendy in 2019! All of the cool kids were wearing them!
2020
Masks were really trendy in 2020! Everybody was wearing them! (literally!) They varied from thousands of different colors, patterns, and styles! Way to go for the mask company!
Toilet paper was ridiculously trendy in 2020!!! If you walked into the store in this year, you would probably notice that the toilet paper section was completely wiped! Get it? Wiped?
Indeed, if you had toilet paper, you had one of the most trendy items of the year!
This weird-looking spike-ball was very popular on the news! It was SO trendy that everybody was talking about it, and everybody was getting it! Can you guess what this is? Well if you were trendy in 2020, I think you would know :)
Everybody suddenly began meeting online, making ZOOM very trendy in 2020! All schools, most office jobs, or just regular people began using ZOOM as their new meeting place!
2021
The good old sweater vests were the top fashion of 2021! Both girls and boys were wearing them! So if you wore a sweater vest in 2021, you were trendy!!

White Nike sneakers are the new trendy thing of 2021! Not just that, they are the #1 best selling shoes of the year! So if you had these shoes in 2021, you were trendy!
2022
A survey was done on 2,000 Americans to find out what the next trendy ice cream flavor would be. The winning flavor that was most voted, and will be ruling 2022 is the mint chocolate ice cream! So go buy as much of this deliciousness as you can, before it all sells out!
Aviator Sunglasses are the new trendy sunglasses rocking this year! They rank as #1 out of 15 on the Optometrists list of best sunglasses! So if you have a pair, start wearing them! Because these babies are in fashion!
The trendy color of the year has finally been announced! 2022’s fashionable color for both apparel, décor, furniture, or anything else, will be (or should I say, is…)

Upcoming in May 6th, 2022, will be the new trendy MARVEL movie: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! This movie will feature two famous actors: Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. So we can only expect this movie to break the top 3 in the box office, or perhaps #1?!
