Lesley, Kieran and Ruby the greyhound provide a warm welcome to our traditional country pub located in the historic village of Carhampton, 4 miles outside Minehead on the A39.

The Butchers Arms is a grade 2 listed building with original features dating back to 1638. Set in delightful Somerset countryside only 2 miles from the fabulous sandy beach at  Blue Anchor and close to the historic village of Dunster and its famous  National Trust castle and gardens.

Carhampton is known for is wassailing celebration, which takes place on the 17th January in the orchard at The Butchers Arms and in the community orchard next to the pub. The villagers form a circle around the largest apply tree, hang pieces of toast soaked in cider in the branches for the robin who represents the good spirits of the tree. a shotgun is fired overhead to scare away any evil spirits.

The village has been occupied since the Iron Age and the remains of Bat's Castle Hillfort are nearby. It is thought the village was the centre for a Saxon royal estate, used as a collection point for local taxes.

Carhampton now is a lively community of around 300 dwellings. The Parish Church of St John The Baptist, a grade 1 listed building, is opposite the Butchers. Village activities centre around the village hall, church and pub.
