We Are #MasonStrong

On September 2, the Karns City Gremlins were playing the Redbank Valley Bulldogs, and in the the third quarter, a Bulldog Defender tackled Mason Martin, the Gremlins QB.  Martin fell on the field after the hit. Medics came on to the field, and he was unresponsive. Martin was life flighted to UPMC Presbyterian where later it was found that his lung collapsed and he suffered internal brain bleeding. Everyone was shocked after the game, but many communities from the state, the country, and even as far away as South America, began to send messages of hope and love to Karns City and the family & friends of Martin.

Several teachers have friends who teach at Karns City, and that's how Burrell got involved in the #MasonStrong movement. During the week of September 11, a banner was created that Burrell students and staff signed during lunch.  Also that week, everyone wore purple to show their support. Pictures were taken with the banner which were shared on social media to show our support. The banner was delivered to Karns City where it will be hung at football games for the rest of the season.

Martin is continuing to improve each day on his long road to recovery. Although his condition was grim at first, it is nothing short of a miracle.
