Burrell vs. Serra Catholic

On August 15, the Burrell Buccaneers (1-2) played the Serra Catholic Eagles (0-3) for their first conference win.  This was an important game because the winner went on to be undefeated in the conference.  To begin the game former Buccaneer, Mason Jones, looked into the eyes of his former teammates while the coin toss flipped up into the air.  The Bucs won the coin toss and took the ball to begin the game.  The whole first half, the score was stuck at 0-0.  In the 3rd quarter Serra Catholic made a huge 62-yard pass to a wide receiver, but corner Maliq Buchak stopped him at the 1-yard line.  The Bucs are able to stop them, but the Eagles still scored the first touchdown and got the extra point to take the lead at  7-0.  In the 4th quarter the Bucs running back Tyler Maglisco ran the ball into the endzone for a big touchdown for the Bucs.  At that moment, Coach Liotta decided to go for the win.  Stevie Hasson made a great pass to Devin Beattie for the 2-pt conversion giving the Bucs an 8-7 lead over the Eagles.  With the Eagles' last drive of the game they were desperate to put points onto the board.  They were able to drive all the way down the field to the 12-yard line.  On 3rd down the Eagles decided to go for a pass, but defensive end Esau King-Buchak sacked the quarterback to put the Eagles on the 22-yard line.  The Eagles went for a game-winning field goal, but Cooper Hornack got a finger on the ball and it was no good, leaving the Bucs with the win over the Eagles 8-7.  After the game Tackle Luke Boylan said after planting the flag at victory circles, “Mason Jones should have never transferred from Burrell.”
