Basic Car Maintenance Demo

Don't get stuck on the side of the road without the knowledge to get back on it

On October 18, during AR Blocks A and B, Senior Kenny Hagerich and Sophomores TJ Hereda & Anthony Maiorana offered a Basic Car Maintenance demonstration. As part of the Senior Seminar class, Hagerich offered this demonstration as part of reimagining his Senior Year. He offered to share his experience with his fellow CTC classmates to assist with the demonstration. Hagerich commented on his experience, "It was really fun. I really enjoy teaching people cars."

Seniors Julia Zanotti and Laci Sukala, also members of the Senior Seminar course, helped Hagerich with a photo shoot for advertising, and Sam Raybets, another member of Senior Seminar, designed the demonstration flyer.

Approximately 25 students attended the demonstration. Also in attendance were about five staff members (who all claimed they already knew how to change a tire 😁) and the three Senior Seminar teachers.  Dr. Autumn Turk commented that this was a wonderful opportunity not only for our students to share their knowledge but also for students to learn such valuable and necessary information when you are driving or riding in a car.

During A Block, Hagerich led a demonstration about how to change a tire, the importance of this skill, as well as what to do once you have the spare tire successfully installed. During B block, all three members of the demonstration team briefly showed students where to find and check the fluids and stressed that it is vital that everyone knows how to check their fluids and the importance of routine maintenance. Attendee, Senior Connor Anderson-Rearick commented on why he chose to attend the demonstration, "I attended because I felt the information was necessary to know if I ever found myself in a similar situation."

Senior Seminar teachers, Mrs. Pagnotta, Mrs. Shaffer, and Mr. Pounds are proud of how everyone came together to make this demo happen. Mr. Pounds commented that Hagerich should consider becoming a teacher because of the outstanding job he did. Mrs. Pagnotta thanked Hagerich several times throughout the preparation for the demo (her vehicle was used as part of the demo) because she was missing several items needed to successfully change her own tire and was made aware of some minor issues with her car.

If you were unable to attend, there is a video of the demonstration below. Thank you to the CTC for allowing these three students to stay a little longer that day at BHS in order to participate in the demonstration.

If you have other skills that you would like to have demonstrated, please reach out to any of the Senior Seminar teachers to see if there are any students who would be able to share their knowledge.
