Not a Mattress in Sight
Gifted and Art Club students took a collective field trip to the Mattress Factory Art Museum in Pittsburgh on October 18. The Mattress Factory features contemporary installation art displays with works from artists like Yayoi Kusama, James Turrell, and Greer Lankton. All of the art pieces are interactive in one way or another, and students had the opportunity to explore them on a guided tour, equipped with sketchbooks and pencils. The highlights were arguably Infinity Dots Mirrored Room and Repetitive Vision, both by Kusama, which were filled with trippy mirror effects, brightly colored dots, and unsettling mannequins. For the second part of the field trip, the students walked to Randyland, one of Pittsburgh’s most popular artistic landmarks, for a brief visit, before capping off the day with a long lunch at Red Robin.
Randyland signs offer a welcoming message of inclusion and acceptance.

Yayoi Kusama's Repetitive Vision is quite possibly the most popular and well-known exhibit at the Mattress Factory.
