Breaking school records again and again
By Jayden Smalling
UPDATE: Senior Kadi Bauer, the previous record-holder for the one mile in track, recently competed at WPIALs where she outdid herself again. Bauer's school record was 5:20.34, and at WPIALs, she ran a 5:19.74, sending her to States, and once again breaking the school record. Most people would be satisfied with breaking the school record twice, but Bauer isn’t finished yet, “I’m gonna break it one more time at states.”
Bauer is going to continue training hard in order to break her own record for the third time.
Junior Luke Guerrini also broke a school record at WPIALs for the 800-meter race with a time of 2:01.08. Bauer and Guerrini will both continue training in order to do even better over the next couple of weeks. Bauer and Junior Ally Smola will both be competing at States.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Senior Kadi Bauer, a Senior track athlete, recently broke the school record in the 1-mile event for the track and field team, running a 5:20.34. The previous record was 5:29.67 set by Junior Grace Nesko. The 1-mile is a very painful race to run and Bauer kept a few things in mind in order to push through and finish strong.
“I kind of just tried to ignore the pain as I was running. I knew that if I would’ve focused on it, I would’ve slowed down and I would’ve gotten in my head too much. I had my teammates, my best friends, coaches, and my family yelling at me to just run and trust all the training that I have done and that’s what I did,” said Bauer. She tries to keep a positive mindset while she’s running, just as Coach Legters taught her.
Nesko, the previous record-holder, said that she is proud of Kadi and she’s looking forward to using Kadi's record as motivation for the upcoming season. Bauer will continue to work hard and hopefully make it to States in the next few weeks.
The Bucs Throw Squad head into the postseason strong
By Ian Quinn
The Bucs Throw Squad had a great year with the girls team placing second in the section and the boys team just coming up short of playoffs. The girls team is led by the highest point scorer Junior Bella Greenwald with over 50 points earned for her team throughout the season.
“I’m excited for the postseason. We’ve put in a lot of work and it's exciting to see all of it pay off,” Greenwald said.
This year, the boys team is graduating four Seniors: Samuel Abraham, Jaxon Logut, Ian Quinn, and Brad Schager. “We're losing some good guys, but I'm confident our younger guys will step up next year,” said Coach Rich Porter.
The Bucs Throw Squad looks excited and are determined to do their best heading into the postseason.
The Throwers take time out to pose at the Dust Bowl.
Freshman Sydney Scherer sails over the hurdle.
We are here to hurdle!
By Lindsay Erb
Hurdling is one of the most exciting events in track and field. It requires a combination of speed, agility, and strength to sprint down the track and jump over each hurdle as quickly as possible. Hurdling requires a lot of practice and attention to detail. Runners must have proper form and technique to clear the hurdles without losing momentum or even balance. You have to stay at a consistent rhythm and stay focused. Freshman Sydney Scherer commented on her technique, “As the track season has gone on, I’ve enjoyed getting to see improvements in my hurdling form and speed when we travel to meets.” Anyone can become a successful hurdler. Never give up and keep your head up.
Junior Ally Smola represented the hurdlers at States in the 100 meter hurdles.
