Softball Spring Training Trip
By Reese Falgione
The Burrell Softball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the end of March for spring training. While in SC, Burrell played a total of three Varsity games and two JV games. They went 2-1 in the record books and 3-2 including JV.
Although it was a softball-oriented trip, that’s not all it was about. The girls got to bond with one another and became a better team because of it. Bunking with each other for 5 days helped build better communication skills and a deeper understanding between the girls. Senior Abby Larko commented, “Us being able to spend time together outside of softball allowed us to get to know each other as people instead of players.”
Despite some bumps in the road, like the Sophomores getting locked in their room, and the freshmen being locked out on multiple occasions, the trip was well worth it overall. Sophomore Sabrina Hoover said, “[Being locked in] was a traumatizing experience. I was just trying to leave and instead I got trapped.” To make matters worse, while the Sophomores were locked in, the Freshman were locked out. While the Seniors were in the lobby waiting for security to help the Sophomores out, the Freshmen were on their way down to get a new key. Overall, Myrtle Beach was an amazing experience, not only for softball but for bonding.
The team always takes time to have some fun on their training trip to Myrtle Beach.

Softball recognizes the seniors despite the game cancellation
By Abby Larko
Burrell Softball was supposed to celebrate their seniors on May 1, but the rainy weather cancelled the game and senior night against Deer Lakes. Instead of cancelling the whole event, the Burrell Softball Boosters threw together a recognition for coaches, players, and families to still celebrate the four seniors in the high school cafeteria that night.
When asked about the event, Senior Cassidy Novak said, “Although it wasn’t the real thing, everyone that helped put it together did a good job and really helped the seniors feel recognized.” Complete with pizza, snacks, and flowers, Seniors Katie Armstrong, Abby Larko, Alanna Miller, and Cassidy Novak were able to enjoy their time with the team and their families. The underclassmen were there to support the four seniors, and Freshman Haylee Heasley explained, “Seeing the seniors leave will be heartbreaking, but I know they will go on to do great things.”
