Burrell Baseball energy is contagious
By: Kwade Kirchartz
Burrell Baseball started off strong to sweep the Valley Vikings in their first section game with a score of 7-2 in the first game and a score of 7-5 in the second game. Senior Kwade Kirchartz singled twice to drive in a pair of runs, and Freshman David Kleckner doubled in two more. There was only one hit against Sophomore Isaac Lacinski and Sophomore Nolan Brower until the sixth inning which played a big role for the Bucs to get that easy victory.
For Burrell's next section game they played Freeport. Burrell split with Freeport, but had a good first game. Burrell took advantage of Freeport's sloppy fielding and inconsistent pitching and won 13-7. Freshman Brayden Mell went 3 for 3. Mell said, “I was thankful to be given an opportunity to play with this group of guys my first year here, especially as a freshman. A lot of good has come from this year, and I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else.”
Sophomore Stevie Hasson came in to pitch the final three innings, and just completely shut them down! Junior AJ McLafferty produced the game's extra base hit with a third inning double, which really put Burrell over the top to come down with the dub.
McLafferty said “I always tell the team to have fun and move on if you make a mistake. Great athletes have short memories. When everyone does this we get and keep our energy. Energy is contagious. Everyone has been stepping up and doing their job, and this is the reason we have been winning.”
Even though the season was cut short and didn't move on post season, the Burrell Bucs worked hard and played very aggressively which is helped them come through and take advantage of these teams.
The team has fun on and off the field... especially on the bus during away games.
