Where is the farthest place you have traveled? There is so much in the vast world for you to see and explore. Traveling abroad is a way to immerse yourself into not only a new country, but also into many new cultures and experiences. Many people imagine traveling abroad, but usually plan it out as a trip later in life. However, why should you wait to experience the multitude of lessons that traveling abroad has to offer? While in high school, students have an easier opportunity to travel abroad due to the flexibility in their schedules. There are many reasons to consider planning a trip to travel abroad while you are young. Traveling abroad at a young age provides personal skills and experiences that can give you life-long benefits. Junior Kierra Smalling says, “I think traveling abroad at a young age is a good opportunity that can lead to many new experiences and teach independence.” Traveling allows people to get out of their comfort zone and build confidence. Furthermore, it is a good opportunity, intellectually, to expand one’s knowledge of other cultures and create unforgettable memories.
Students who travel abroad will gain the knowledge of cultural sensitivity and globalization. Junior Elliot Litz states, “The experience of going to another country taught me about others’ way of life, outside of where I live, and the difference between cultures.” Seeing new places and meeting new people will provide opportunities and connections to network. These lessons that you learn traveling abroad can help you further in life, especially in the professional world. Hence, next time you start to plan a trip, consider traveling abroad as a possible vacation destination.
