Chess moves its way into Burrell
By Aiden Malits
Chess has seen a reemergence amongst kids in our high school since the start of the new school year. Although games were being played before, it had not become as widespread as it is now. Many people have made accounts on chess.com where they challenge their classmates, people online, or computers. Due to chess.com allowing students to learn proper moves and fully understand the game, they have improved both in lateral thinking and logical reasoning.
Teachers support this movement of chess because unlike other games being played on kid’s phones, chess is a way of developing their minds in contrast to other violent or useless games. As the end of the year approaches, more chess boards can be seen with a peak into classrooms. As long as there is no "rage quitting," chess is a relaxing, strategy game that anyone can play, and with a little bit of practice can begin to master.
