2nd Annual Statistics Symposium
By Hanna Thomas
On Monday May 15, Ms. Volek held the second annual Burrell High School’s Statistic Symposium. The event consisted of Ms. Volek’s period 10 stats class, all of which invited family and friends to the event. The students showcased and presented their year-long projects for all to see. The projects were created around a question they proposed and gathered data to solve their question using statistics, which they worked on all year.
Each project was a group of two students that worked together to solve their question using math, create a poster board, and create a slideshow to present. Also invited were several Burrell alumni to listen to guest speakers, who would later sit on a panel to answer questions from current and future stats students.
Ms. Volek had lots of joy to express about the evening! She shared that the event, “Exceeded her expectations. The student presentations were very well done and that their projects were a great demonstration of their hard work throughout the year." As she does each year, Ms. Volek sent these digital posters into a state competition in the hope her students will place and win a prize as they have done in previous years. With this only being the second year, she hopes to be able to watch this event grow into an annual tradition for Burrell statistics!
