Get your Greek on...
By Weston Baronie and Cassidy O'Brien
The word “prom” is actually a shortened version of the word “promenade.” It was an event for couples to walk together at a dance and show off their good manners and elegant fashion back in the 1800s. Every year, the seniors, juniors, and some sophomores go to the prom and celebrate the end of another school year. As part of tradition, the Burrell prom begins with Promenade at the high school before moving on to the actual prom. Most students took part in the Promenade at the high school where each couple was announced on stage before moving on to the more formal venue for dinner and dancing. This year, unlike the past couple, the Promenade and prom were sponsored by the Junior Class Student Government members with the help of Mrs. Anthony, Junior Class Advisor.
On May 5, the prom was held at Laube Hall in Freeport with a beautiful Greek Garden theme. Junior Payton Montgomery commented on the theme and decorations, “It was really cute, and I really liked it! The decorations made the hall look awesome and good in pictures.”
The venue was a nice open space with a large dance floor. The students had a lot of space to show off their dance moves. "The DJ did a good job playing bangers, and when he saw kids didn't like a certain song, he changed it quickly," said Mrs. Aranyos, Sophomore Class Advisor and chaperone.
The photobooth was busy all night, and gave students the chance to pose with friends and make memories. Senior Ally Rigatti commented, “The photobooth was so fun to take pictures with my friends and dress up. Also, it was so fun to see my friends get down on the dance floor!”
Students were presented with good food, a fun photo booth, airbrush tattoos, a terrace with a beautiful view to take pictures, and a surprise from the Kona Ice Truck.
The Laube Hall staff and DJ commented that Burrell students are some of the most polite students they have ever worked for. The BHS prom was a very successful event because of all of the very hard work that the students dedicated their time and as well the teachers.
