National Honor Society Induction

The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization for high school students. The NHS program empowers and equips students with the knowledge and skills to be transformative leaders in school, community, and beyond. In addition, it provides a necessary bridge between students and school leaders helping to engage and hear what students think, feel, and need. The Induction Ceremony was held in the Burrell High School auditorium on May 9.  Senior Britta Lindgren open the ceremony with the invocation and Senior Katie Armstrong sang the National Anthem. In traditional fashion, student speeches were given about the roles of members, history and the four pillars of NHS. The Keynote Speaker was Officer Rob Acquaviva, which was appropriate since the community project was creating benches honoring the fallen first responders of the area, Officer Kotecki, Officer Shaw, and Chief McIntire. Each of the new members were inducted along with honorary members, Officer Rob, and this year's Burrell retirees. The Pass it On portion of the ceremony was next when the current executive board passed along their responsibilities to the new executive board. Then Seniors passed on their keychain to a new or existing member they felt would carry on their legacy. Mrs. Abel recognized Junior Cooper Hornack for his contributions to Burrell through his wrestling accomplishments, and Mr. Facemyer offered his closing remarks. To bring the ceremony to a close the inductees presented a flower to someone in their lives who have had an impact on their academic career. The Senior members also presented flowers to teachers who were impactful during their time at BHS. Everyone was invited to the cafeteria for cookies after the ceremony.
