The toy drive is sponsored each year by Dr. York and Dr. Pallone, area chiropractors located at the Valley Sports Complex. Dr. Pallone commented on this year's turnout, "This is the best year we have had in awhile. We've been doing it for about 18 years. We slowed down with COVID, so it was great to see such participation this year."
Student Government and the National Honor Society teamed up to raise money for the toy drive. Members of the organizations collected money during all AR blocks to sell paper snowflakes for $1. Each class was a different color in order to see who has the most school and holiday spirit as the glass hallways filled with snow! The Toy Drive snowflake sale fundraiser money was totaled:
Seniors raised $29
Sophomores raised $31.85
Juniors raised $42.25
Teachers raised $63.
And the best class in the building, the Freshmen, raised $76.
That’s a total of $242.10 to buy toys for local children this holiday season. Thank you to all the generous people who donated.
The toy drive was held at Forza Motors on Leechburg Road on Saturday, December 10. A few students in Burrell NHS, Student Government, and other volunteers from the neighborhood helped to collect the toys. The volunteers were also offered complimentary snacks in return for their work. There were many great donations that will surely brighten a child’s holiday, including Barbies, toy dinosaurs, puzzles, and a skateboard! In the last few hours of the drive, the total number of donations passed 500! After the event was wrapped up, there was a beautiful and bountiful display of toys. All toys collected were sent to the Salvation Army in New Kensington. NHS gathered on Monday, December 12 to help the Salvation Army sort the toys, which were distributed to local families for the holiday on Tuesday, December 20. The following NHS students helped with the distribution, along with Mrs. Abel and Mr. Facemyre:
David Aliyetti
Chase Fenner
Jaxon Logut
