The Burrell Bucs golf team is coming off of a loss to Riverview on September 15th, and the golf team seemed to be falling behind in conference title play. The loss puts the Bucs at a 6-5 record and the Bucs have two matches remaining in the season.
Senior Zack McKnight said, “The team has to stay dialed in to secure the next two matches; they will be some of the hardest matches we have this year, and we have to stay consistent." The Bucs had the Knoch home at River Forest Country Club and an away match at Buffalo against Freeport in which they lost to both teams earlier in the season. Sophomore Tucker Bitar also implied, “If everyone on the team does their job, I don't see why we could not win. We have a hard-headed team with great leadership and hopefully it can take us far."
The team will lean on the six starters, Senior Captain Jaxon Logut, Sophomore Captain Tucker Bitar, Senior Emily Wojtczak, Senior Zack McKnight, Junior Chantz Watkins, and Freshman David Kleckner to try and bring home the win for the Bucs. This mediocre season comes just after a two and a half year undefeated streak in which the Bucs won back to back section championships.
Valley match recap
The Burrell golf team continued their strong season with a nice win against Valley on September 7. Sophomore Tucker Bitar stated, “I have been very consistent all season long shooting my average which is six over, looking to continue the season strong.” Bitar's wedge game dialed from 120 yards away. Senior Jaxon Logut was the low scorer shooting an outstanding 38 using his 9-iron from 145 yards out and putting the ball right up on the green.
Everybody on the team pulled it together and did what they needed to do to pull through the win, and they are looking forward to keeping that energy and teamwork throughout the rest of the season.
Head Coach Joe Virone accompanied by Asst. Coach George Hubbard enjoy the nice weather chillin' in the golf cart.
Senior Jaxon Logut sinks his putt for the birdie.
Freshman David Kleckner, Senior Jaxon Logut, Sophomore Tucker Bitar, and Senior Zack McKnight take a moment from teeing off to strike a pose.
Congratulations to Senior Emily Wojtczak, the first female BHS golfer to attend WPIAL Qualifiers this year!
