The hunt begins and then ends quickly...
Every year your Burrell Bucs host a game called, ”Splash Zone” or “Assassin," a water gun game made for Seniors, Juniors and some Sophomores if they are asked by an upperclassman. The game is very simple. You and your partner get assigned a target (another duo/team), and you have 1 week to spray them with water guns anywhere off of school grounds. If you succeed, you pass onto the next round, but if you don’t, you’re OUT! Might want to watch your back while you're at it since a team you don’t know will also be hunting you. Students had anticipated it all year and began strategizing and scheming before it even started. Junior Chantz Watkins commented, ”It’s a super fun game, and I can’t wait for it to start! Teams better watch out, cause I’m going for Gold!” This year's game began on Monday, March 27.
There are a lot of rules as to when you can "strike," which are shared with the teams. Some include, you cannot break any laws in the pursuit of someone, and you cannot stalk a person on school grounds, etc. As the game continued throughout the first few days of the game, the players became more competitive to the point where students were continuously breaking the rules, and sometimes even the law. Once the police got involved, the game had to unfortunately come to and early end. The seniors blame the Juniors for the end, “The juniors at Burrell do not know how to drive,” according to Senior Ali Hughes. Junior Karlee Thimmons had a pretty realistic take on the end of the game, “It was fun while it lasted!” All the craziness resulted in the game ending after just two days. However, it is rumored there will be Splash Zone 2.0!
