Reading Railroad brings luck to Bon Air for St. Patty's Day
Reading Railroad had their St. Patrick's Day event at Bon Air on March 16. Various groups of BHS students went from classroom to classroom to read Jack and the Leprechaun to the youngsters, ranging from kindergarten to third grade. In true Reading Railroad fashion, the high schoolers acted out the book and put on a show, which was followed by St. Patty's Day themed bingo.
Senior Annika Piotrowski played the role of Liam the Leprechaun in her group, complete with an orange painted-on beard, a large green shamrock-covered top hat, and a pool noodle in place of a shillelagh, which is a traditional Irish walking stick made of wood. When asked for her thoughts on the event, Piotrowski said that she had fun and appreciates the fact that Reading Railroad is "benefiting young readers."
The event was not only fun for the students, but for the elementary school teachers as well. Some Reading Railroad members noted Mrs. Baxter-Blubaugh's reaction in particular. Mrs. BB herself weighed in, "My kindergarten students and I thoroughly enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day event that Reading Railroad did. The story and the skit were hilarious, and the bingo was super fun for my young students. Shout out to Annika for her role as the leprechaun. I don't know if my students or I have ever laughed so hard!" Suffice to say, everyone had a great time.
