Students & Scholarships
As the year comes to an end, seniors get to experience the excitement of receiving scholarships to help with the cost of college or other forms of secondary education. To apply, the student must typically be in good academic standing, display leadership, and participate in community service. As a current senior, I have had the opportunity to not only be selected as a recipient for many but also attend award ceremony brunches and dinners.
The committees are looking for well-rounded students who exemplify the purpose or inspiration behind their scholarship. My advice is to upcoming seniors is to apply for as many as possible. I applied for over 15 and have won 3 of 4 that I have heard back from so far! You will never know unless you try.
When asked about her experience with scholarships, Senior Maddy Torrell explained, "I applied for over 20 and I was awarded many! Even though I applied for so many, I only had to write 2 essays and rework them for each one. It is not as much work as you may think."
This year's Scholarship and Awards Ceremony will take place on May 26th, where seniors will be publicly awarded their sums in front of the district, community, and family.
