We sat down for a discussion with Junior Jason Wagner about the latest meeting of the History Club, which focused on the significance of the St. Patrick's Day Flood. This newer club has 15 members, and they dig into local history each week. Wagner explained the impact of the St. Patrick's Day Flood and how it is the worst among eight major flood events since 1900. The flood reached 42 feet high, compared to the previous highest flood of 27 feet high. Wagner emphasized the importance of knowing with our local history, since there are so many unique stories in our region, and there is so much history most of us don't even know about! Wagner went on to talk about using historical artifacts and primary sources like real newspaper articles from the time to research topics like this flood and other local histories. It's important to know where WE came from, facts about OUR location, and knowing how WE tie into history.
