BHS takes the plunge to raise money for Special Olympics Athletes
Burrell High School made waves on February 23, 2024, as students and teachers plunged into the icy waters outside of Acrisure Stadium for a cause close to their hearts, Special Olympics and inclusion in high school sports. With adrenaline pumping and enthusiasm soaring, participants braved the chilly temperatures to raise funds and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The Polar Plunge, is an iconic event organized annually by the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. This year the event kicked off at 10a.m. with a vibrant group of plungers, sporting all types of fun outfits. From superheroes to cowboys, the creativity and energy was on display for everyone to see. Along with the jump, participants were able to enjoy live music and games. There were numerous food trucks as well. The 38 students that took the plunge raised over three thousand dollars for Special Olympics Athletes. Senior Anthony Roman commented that the event, "...was a very cold and exciting experience. I had a lot of fun." A sentiment that was shared by all who participated.
The Polar Plunge is an annual event, so look for information so you can join in the fun (and cold) next year.
