Coffman's Upcoming Pirate Season Predictions
By Carter Coffman
The Pittsburgh Pirates have had many ups and downs in the last 10 years. The Pirates are coming of a down season having a record of 61-101. But they did have some bright spots including all star center fielder Bryan Reynolds. Reynolds batted a .302 with 24 home runs. He is looking to lead the Pirates to more success this upcoming season. The Pirates have built up a top 5 farm system in the past couple of years , but they have had to sacrifice some key players including Adam Frazier, Josh Bell, and Jacob Stallings... just to name a few. A couple key prospects have made their debuts last season including Oneil Cruz and Roansy Contrears. Contrears is 22 years old and is looking to make himself a bonafide starter in the Pirates rotation. He was acquired from the Yankees last winter for Jameson Taillon. Cruz is a shortstop and is one of the Pirates top prospects. He is 23 years old and a whopping 6’7. He will be looking to make an instant impact this year.
I went around the school and asked people what they think the Pirates record will be this year. Out of 20 responds the average record is 68-94. As this would be a step in the right direction.
My prediction: I think the Pirates should finish the season with a record of 78-84. I am very excited to see this young baseball team compete and grow. I am expecting a playoff birth by 2024.
