Track and Field Runs to States
By Ethan Lucot and Staff
During the 2022 track season there was a lot of promise for both the boys and girls teams. The team worked hard this season as the the girls qualified for team WPIALs, and the boys fell just short. Although the boys team missed WPIALS, there were impressive performances by sprinters Senior Brandon Coury and Sophomore Devin Beattie. The girls 4x8 team led by Senior Izzy Leger, Sophomore Grace Nesko, and Juniors Kadi Bauer & Brynn Leiner finished third overall at WPIALs and qualified for the PIAA State Championship meet and broke the school record. Izzy also broke the school record in the 3200 m and finished overall 8th at WPIALs. See below for a list of WPIAL competitors and WPIAL champions. Both teams struggled with inclement weather the entire season. Track is a great sport for camaraderie and having a great time since the meets are long and so is the distance to travel to meets and invitationals, so even though some athletes struggled to meet their Personal Records, they still enjoyed their time with training and competing throughout the season. Even though not everyone competed at finals, it was great to have such a large team of students to support each other through the stress of the finals. Congratulations to the qualifiers, WPIAL champs, and state qualifiers.
