Softball bats their way to Playoffs
By Staff
The girls softball team had an outstanding regular season, a great playoff run, and had their eye on the prize of making it to states all year. With 12 players and only 1 senior, the team is already looking forward to crushing their opponents next year as well. Senior Caroline Dynka at Short Stop and Junior Katie Armstrong at Pitcher made up a strong infield. A formidable freshman presence, paired with most of the roster playing with travel teams this year made them virtually unstoppable. Junior Abby Larko commented that this year's team had a strong hitting season, and Junior Alanna Miller also commented on their outstanding teamwork at supporting Katie as the pitcher with a strong defense.
The girls ended their regular season with a record of 12-1. In their first playoff game against Belle Vernon, the Lady Bucs scored on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the 11th inning to advance to WPIAL Semifinals. Katie Armstrong struck out 21 batters for the win. The girls beat Montour 3-1 to place 3rd in the WPIAL and advanced to the PIAA State playoffs. The girls beat Villa Maria Academy 6-0 and advanced to PIAA State Quarterfinals. The Lady Bucs end a fantastic season with a tough loss to defending State Champs Beaver Area Bobcats.
