Competing against 24 other female bowlers on March 18, Senior Lydia Flanagan won the WPIBL State Championship. She was the first person from Burrell to ever reach this accomplishment and the first person to win from the West Division since 2015. Lydia qualified 2nd after 6 games and then played 2 head-to-head games resulting in two wins against the fourth and first seed bowlers. Lydia’s coach, Richie Grilli, accompanied her and her parents to states. “I felt like all my hard work paid off, and it was a great way to end my senior year”, said Lydia. She plans to bowl in college at Trine University, Indiana while majoring in chemical engineering. She hopes that more students join Burrell’s bowling team,“Anyone can bowl. No prior experience necessary, so join the team since so many of us are graduating next year. Anyone can be turned into a bowler, so don’t be afraid to give it a try.”
