March Madness and Mayhem in the Bucco Gym
By Staff
In honor of March Madness, and well, Spring, the high school held a SPRING pep rally on Friday March 18. Leading up to the event, we held a spirit week. Monday was tie-dye day, Tuesday was jersey day, Wednesday was wacky hat day, Thursday was St. Patrick's Day (duh!?!), and Friday was class shirt day. The most participation was of course on St. Patrick's Day! On Friday, since it was a two-hour early dismissal day, we were dismissed to the gym from 8th period for some competition and fun.
The first ever Sibling Relay race was held where siblings competed against other siblings in a balloon popping contest. The Zanella siblings (Nico and Calio) came out on top followed very closely by the Croushores (Ethan and Ryan). It was a popping good time complete with a totally appropriate reason to smash and bash your sibling. Each pair was asked to sit, stand, and lay down on their sibling in order to pop a balloon.
The relay was followed by the Seniors vs. Teachers basketball game. The Seniors were all set to win and talked smack all week but came up short; unable to sink many attempts made at the basket. Sports Caster, Senior Connor Coleman, did an excellent job calling the play by play action. The Senior team was made up of Michael White, Kamden Marmo, Dom Ferra, Ethan Lucot, and Shawn Szymanski. The team was coached by Senior Bucco Basketball players, Travis Bitar, Donovan Callahan, and Brandon Coury. They thought it an unfair advantage to allow any of the basketball players to compete, but their help was definitely needed. The Teachers were Mr. Diehl, Mr. Nesko, Mr. Walsh, Mr. Leghart, and Mr. Reddick, who opted for no official coaching staff.
Half-time was filled with the third eating contest of the year. The Blubaugh brothers (Michael and Matthew) competed again along with Jackson Beck. It was over before it began with Jackson making quick order of his 10 cookies.
Time ran out on the school day before it ran out on the game, but there was no hope any way for the Seniors to catch up. The Teachers held the lead the entire game due to the dominating play of the teachers: Diehl's unmatched sinking abilities, Reddick's stamina, "Frank the Tank" Nesko's fan support, Senor's fancy footwork, and Walsh's passing game. The teacher's may have been winded at the end, but they powered through to take the W with a final score of 21-5.
