Little Bucs see Race Car (and physics) in Action
By Saleena Hickey
The Child Development class here at BHS invited Dr. Chad Roland, Kiski HS Principal and Crew Chief of six years from Roland Motorsports. The team races at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. Dr. Roland wanted to explain to the preschool kiddos that what the racing crew does is so much more than putting 4 tires on a car. It is more scientific and more in depth than what people see on TV, and it is so much more than fast cars going in a circle. Dr. Roland considers himself a "gear-head". He said, "The strategy behind racing really fires me up." He enjoys not only the competition, but setting up the car and making changes along the way to get a better, faster, and more precise performance.
Dr. Roland was also able to share his knowledge with Mr. Nesko's Physics class. He said that racing is all about physics, "The car is physics. The adjustments are physics in action. Everything we do is physics, which is why I taught it for 8 years!" They could have talked about motion and techniques to go faster all day!
