Child Development Class Celebrates 2022 Preschool Graduation
By Staff
This year the Child Development class taught by Mrs. Godot was excited to welcome back preschool graduation after a year and a half of COVID shut down. Mrs. Godot commented on getting to celebrate, "After a year and a half without the preschool program, I found hearing the kids laugh again, and the preschoolers' sheer enthusiasm and enjoyment for being in school and learning the most rewarding." "It is O'fish'ally Summer" was the theme. The five preschoolers (Hazel, Landon, Milo, Austin, and Kolsen) graduated with their high school helpers. The graduation was held on May 12 in the high school library. Parents and grandparents of the Little Bucs were invited to attend. Graduation started with a procession followed by each of the helpers saying a little bit about the strengths of each Little Buc and how they have grown this year. The helpers and young Buccos sang a song written by Sophomore Nadia Nee (see video below). Then everyone was invited to socialize and play games. Snacks included Gold Fish crackers, dolphin bananas, and fish muffins. The kids played fishing games and were invited to share their classwork with their parents and grandparents. Junior Avery Bain, who took the class this year, summed up how most of the high school students feel about participating in graduation, "We enjoy seeing their smiling faces and spending time with the kids."
The Child Development class is a great opportunity to help the high school students learn about child development, and the Little Bucs to have a genuine preschool experience. Mrs. Godot expressed the importance of each of the different learning experiences, "I think one of the most important lessons high school students takeaway is that they are a part of a child's first school experience. Their attitudes, demeanor, and effort directly affects how the preschool child will feel about school and learning moving forward. High school students also experience first-hand how important it is to model positive behavior as well as be positive and upbeat in the classroom because the preschool children look up to their helpers and will follow their lead."
Any resident of the Burrell School District can take part in the preschool program costs $30 a semester, so it is well worth the minimum cost for the experience. If you are interested in sending your little one, please contact Mrs. Godot. Her email is agodot@burrell.k12.pa.us.
