Burrell High School explores the outdoors at Laurel Summit State Park
By Staff
What started as an Outdoor Pursuits proposed field trip turned into an "all are welcome" PE trip to Laurel Summit State Park. Mrs. McKallip and Mr. Thome accompanied 25 students who wanted to join them in exploring the state park on September 20. Mrs. McKallip thought the hike went very well and would love to do it again and as many times as possible. When asked about how they decided on this particular park, Mr. Thome said, "We through a dart at a map." Everyone who went had a great time. Junior Olivia Kastelic said, "It was fun because it was a day out of school visiting a scenic trail and seeing the beautiful view from the overlook". The PE teachers are always encouraging their students (as well as staff - Thanks, Mr. Thome for all the invites for staff hikes and bike rides) to explore the outdoors, and they are always reaching their classrooms further than just the gym walls. We are lucky to have opportunities here at the high school that can push beyond the regular curriculum and teach the appreciation of the outdoors for those that choose to embrace it.
