Burrell High School Welcomes the Class of 2025
By Abigail Siwak and Staff
Freshman Orientation was held on August 24, 2021 in person for the first time since the pandemic hit. The turn out was outstanding as parents came to meet with Administration and Guidance and students went on upperclassmen lead tours around the building. "It was nice to see such a great turn out. We haven't had this many people in many years. It was also so nice to see smiling faces since masks are not required yet this school year," said Student Freshman Class Advisor, Mrs. Shaffer. Senior Class Advisor, Mrs. Wagner also commented on how many parents stopped to look at the graduated class pictures hung on the front hallway outside the gym. Mrs. Wagner is in charge of coordinating the senior class picture each year during Senior Week. "It was nice to see people looking at the pictures and reminiscing, especially since so many of the parents are alumni," Wagner said.
We sent Senior Abby Siwak, Staff Writer, out to ask freshmen how they are feeling about being at the high school so far...
The freshmen this year have arrived and have been working very hard to adjust to the high school experience and routine. Some students find the classes less tedious than the longer classes at the middle school, but others think that it is harder to keep track of ten periods.
Freshman Saleena Hickey said, “It’s fun, but ten periods, instead of how many were in middle school, is a lot more to deal with”.
The freshman class does enjoy high school activities/classes more than what they did at the middle school and have found new favorite classes already. Some of the new favorites are Video Tech, which is Freshman Kelsey Haas’s favorite, Biology, and Spanish. Many students think the classes are more challenging, especially for the students who took honors and Pre-AP classes, which adds to their work load for the year. Freshman Elliana Koulouris said she enjoys the independence that the high school provides.
We are excited to see what the new class does for the remainder of the year. Welcome Class of 2025!
