The much-anticipated annual Mini Cheer Camp is organized by the Burrell cheer program. It unites the community while allowing the younger students the exciting chance to be a member of the squad! They join the squad in two practices and then experience the thrills of Friday Night Lights alongside the high school cheerleaders to get a taste of what it's like to be a member of the official squad. For many, it is a first performance that quickly becomes an unforgettable and empowering event.
During practices, they are taught a range of cheers, chants, tumbling, and some basic stunting skills. More importantly, these practices give them the chance to develop relationships with the high school cheerleaders, who serve as leaders and role models. The younger girls feel accepted and included since the high school cheerleaders offer them advice, support, and encouragement. Junior Morgan Cromer said, "It is such a fun experience for these kids to interact with others and make new friends."
Every school year mini cheer camp takes place twice: once during football season and again in basketball season. Even if the sports may be different, the camps format is the same, and both camps provide the same enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Every time, the youth cheerleaders bring their passion to the field or the court, and the crowd's enthusiasm adds even more individuality to the occasion.
"Our cheerleaders always have a good time getting to interact with the younger girls and creating new experiences with them," said Senior Captain Mariah Kaiser in her reflections on the program. Her remarks capture how much the high school team loves working with the youth cheerleaders.
