As the class of 2025 leaves, the upcoming classes are getting closer to graduation. Senior year is filled with the "next big steps". Finding a roommate is one of the most important steps you will have to take if you are moving on to college. This person is going to be living with you for at least a year, and you'll be spending most of your time with them regardless of your connection or lack of one. So, it is most important to find the best possible match from the beginning, and there are many different ways and outlets to find the right roommate for you. Just remember that you must be honest with yourself on your preferences, habits, and personality, so you can find someone right for you. It can be hard to reject someone, but if it doesn't seem right, you gotta let them go! Other people's emotions don't matter when it comes to your future comfort in a very small dorm or even apartment space. Below I am going to review multiple outlets to reach out or find a roommate!
Zeemee~ This app is recommended for students by colleges to reach out to other students. The app allows you to set up a bio with your likes and dislikes, as well as take a roommate quiz to find compatible living habits. This app also has group chats with a variety of kids looking into the same college/ university.
Sports~ Some people have it easy and can just find a roommate due to the sport they're playing. Its understood that once a team is formed, it is recommended you room with someone on your team. That is because of rigorous training schedules.
Instagram~ We all know what Instagram is... but it really is a helpful tool for searching for a roommate. Most universities/ colleges have a non affiliated Instagram page for your graduating class. This is the same concept of Zeemee but your able to add some snip-its of your life to the post. This also allows you to reach out and just make friends as well!
The process of finding a roommate can be as easy as one text, and for others it can be multiple conversations. I went around asking some BHS senios how they found their roommate, and here are the responses!
Gianna Sever stated, " Well I basically found my roommate because she's my teammate..."
Brittany Thomas gave an unexpected answer with, "I'm not 100%, but I am pretty sure freshmen at my college have randomized roommates. If that's not the case then I'm still doing it."
When I asked Braelie Krahe she laughed in my face and proclaimed, "Uhhh I went to school with mine and were friends so just be friends with them?"
As seen above the process is only dependent on the person and their situation. It is how you approach the task and what you'd rather use to communicate with possible roommates. As you take that next step into senior year you will be overwhelmed with many tasks. Don't think you need to do it all at once and just be punctual. This is all such an exciting experience and you should not rush through it.
