NWCTC excels at Regional SkillsUSA Competition
Each year, students compete in hands-on competitions in their field. Students begin at a regional level who compete against other CTCs in the district. This year the regional competition was held on January 24, and three students placed in their respective events:
1st Place
Taylor Burford - Medical Terminology (Health Occupations)
2nd Place
Anthony Maiorana- Automotive Service Technology (Auto Mechanics Technology)
4th place
Logan Eckman- Welding (Welding)
Taylor will be moving on to states which will be in Hershey, PA which is held April 2-4, 2025 with the competition on April 3. Taylor said, "I enjoyed Skills, it was a nerve wracking experience; Definitely worth it though. I got to know people I did not know prior and it is genuinely a beneficial learning process for anyone trying to expand their knowledge" about the competition.
Anthony also commented on the experience: "Competing in SkillsUSA was a pretty fun experience, even though I was up against older students who had more experience than me. It was a bit intimidating at first, knowing I was competing with people who had been honing their skills for longer, but it also pushed me to do my best. I learned a lot from the experience—not just about the competition itself but also about staying confident and focused under pressure. Overall, it was a great opportunity to challenge myself, and I’m proud of my performance."
