Prom goes off as planned despite an early power outage
On May 2nd, students gathered at Laube Hall in Freeport for a much anticipated prom night that almost didn’t happen. A powerful storm swept through the area just days before the big event, knocking out electricity at the venue and leaving the Student Gov organizers and attendees uncertain about where the event would take place. Shortly after the cancellation from the venue, they called back to say the power was on and everything was a go. The rain continued, but that didn't stop juniors, seniors, and their guests from having a good time. The theme was Masquerade, and the Junior class members of Student Government did a wonderful job of making the night a wonderful celebration, which included a red carpet, air brush tattoos, a photo booth, a Shirley Temple Bar, and, of course, the annual visit from the Kona Ice truck.
Some students weighed in on the night saying " I am glad I met some new people there who were cool and enjoyable," said Senior Jason Wagner. Junior Gavyn Orr said, " It was enjoyable but could have been better." Finally Senior Jules Fisher said, "Prom was really fun" and it was her last school dance. She thought "it was very memorable and a great way to end her time in high school. I will miss all the fun that I have had at Burrell."
