On March 27-29, 2025, BHS presented their Spring musical, Matilda. It follows an exceptionally smart little girl named Matilda, played by Senior Braelie Krahe, who lives with her parents Harry and Zinnia Wormwood (played by Juniors Jesse Barbioux and Abby Weitzel) and her brother Michael (played by Sophomore Zach Jones), who believe her to be “a nasty little creep,” and judge her for being a “stupid little bookworm.” With her brilliant mind, she is able to calculate large mathematical equations at the young age of 6, which most grown-ups require a calculator to solve. She also loves to read, and this is supposedly what has made her brain so big. She writes beautiful stories frequently, like one about an the amazing Escapologist (played by Sophomore Spiro Koulouris) and his wife the Acrobat (played by Senior Kiera McGarvey). She tells her stories to the local librarian, Ms. Phelps (played by Senior Cai Yankel), who adores her and her tales. Her parents send her off to Crunchem Hall where she meets the wicked Headmistress, Agatha Trunchbull (played by Junior Lily Sassani), who believes all children to be "toads" and "revolting". She also meets her new best friend, Lavender (played by Junior Emma Hughes), and new teacher, Ms. Honey (played by senior Elliana Koulouris), who are the only ones, aside from some of her other classmates, who truly realize and appreciate Matilda’s brilliance. The musical by Roald Dahl brings messages like, “just because you’re little, you can do a lot,” "try your best to keep everything fair", and that "children, literature, and a good education should be highly valued". If you didn’t see this year’s spring musical, you really missed out on something “nothing less than truly extraordinary.”
