NHS takes a stand on Drunk Driving with Drunk Busters Goggles
On May 1, NHS organized a Drunk Driving Simulation event with the help of St. Vincent College and sponsored by Drunk Busters, who provided the simulation goggles and equipment. About 143 Seniors and Juniors participated in one 30 minutes session which took place on the field throughout most of the day. All activities included wearing drunk goggles which simulated impairment when drinking or using other types of drugs. Student participated in simple activities like walking a straight line, throwing a football, and cornhole, which were not as easy it sounds with the goggles. The highlight of the event was the two person pedal cart which students had to navigate through an obstacle course. Senior Jason Wagner notched up the difficulty by throwing items into the course and letting students know when they crashed into things such as buildings, cars, dogs and sometimes people. Even though the event had some funny moments and lots of photos and videos were taken of fellow students feeling the effects of the goggles, this event had a serious message on the day before prom. Alcohol and drugs seriously impair your ability to do everyday activities. Impairment driving is especially dangerous, and the simulation was a serious reminder to not let a night of fun and celebration turn into a tragedy.
